Quality not Quantity

Why choose lumber from a small scale sawmill instead of the big box stores? Two words, Slow Growth, Trees that grow in a healthy forest/ wooded area grow slower and have more competition in reaching for the sunlight! This results in smaller and stronger “growth rings.” Most lumber in the big box stores have been harvested from farms that may or may not generically modify the trees to grow faster, also growing them in larger open areas causes little to no competition resulting in fast growing seasons with large spread out growth rings which ultimately means its not going to be as strong.
